El Topo Review

El Topo is an acid western from 1970 directed by Alejandro Jodorowsky. It follows the main character of El Topo as he journey’s through the desert meeting numerous individuals. Some of these characters he befriends while others he must confront and kill. This film is a spiritual journey that explores the many facets of mankind. The lead role of El Topo is played by Jodorowsky himself. His son is also cast in the film as well. When El Topo premiered in the early 70’s, it was shown as a midnight movie that was usually featured back to back with a few other films and gained the attention of artists like Andy Warhol and John Lennon. The film has been a cult favorite of many and inspired many directors and artists.
